DOUBLE RAINBOW FORMATION

Let see how Rainbow forms. A rainbow can be formed by two major things, the first one is White light and the other is a water droplet. White light is obtained by sunlight and the Water droplet is by Rain. Usually, a Rainbow can forms contradictory to the sunlight. Now see a light ray will fall on the water droplet it disperses seven different colors in it, this phenomenon is called Dispersion. The speed of the light in air or vacuum may remain the same. But the speed of the light will decreases when it falls on water because the density of water is higher than the density of air.

When the light ray falls on the water droplet, the ray will bend and produces different colors, this is known as Refraction. Those different seven colors are having different wavelengths so it goes with different speeds and different angles. Once the light ray falls on the medium it bends and reflected back to the air medium. These reflected light having seven colors and those colors are in different angles. (ie. Red color- 42 degrees) Each water droplet shows only one color intensively. So all the droplets are produce reflected light rays. These light rays are arranged one by one to form a single rainbow.

Now see how the Second rainbow forms, A rainbow will form due to two refraction and one reflection on the water droplet. A droplet that is above 10 degrees to the primary rainbow had 2 refractions and 2 reflections in it. Due to this phenomenon, the secondary rainbow will forms. This is otherwise known as Double Rainbow.
